Buckpool Harbour 1857

Buckpool Harbour, located on the Moray Coast, is no longer operational; it has filled in and transformed into a play park and garden. Despite this, it remains in excellent condition. This photograph was taken during the driest May ever recorded in Scotland, when my hometown of Lossiemouth experienced 38 consecutive dry days. It was one of those overly perfect days, with calm seas and wispy blue skies. I was relieved when the rain arrived, bringing back moody and atmospheric light.

  1. . a spot i am familiar with.. i can imagine that in past centuries, it was a busy harbour. But as to weather, i am tempted to say that photographers are never satisfied

    1. I am satisfied when we get four seasons in one day lol. I understand it was a very busy harbour like all the harbours along this coast full of Herring boats. But it regularly silted up so when Buckie Harbour opened the boats migrated along the coast.
