Exploring RAF Milltown’s Role in WWII

I have wanted to capture these images for a while, and I’m delighted to finally share them.

RAF Milltown was initially established as a decoy airfield for RAF Lossiemouth, located three miles to the northwest. These decoy airfields, known as “Q sites,” were typically situated near real airfields and were illuminated at night in the hope that any enemy aircraft attacks would target the decoy instead of the actual airfield. On October 27, 1941, the decoy site was abandoned, and work began on constructing a permanent airfield intended for use by an operational training unit of RAF Coastal Command. 1. Using a DJI drone – I am rather close to the RAF Lossiemouth restricted airspace so plenty of planning and checking of the weather. I parked in a nearby field early evening and up I went – due to the scale you have to drop quite a distance back.
