Island Abstract

As a local photographic judge, I predicted that drone photography would become mainstream and enter photographic competitions. This has undoubtedly come to pass; my first drone shots were taken in 2014. Since then, the quality of drone imagery has improved dramatically, reaching a level comparable to that of my DSLR, mirrorless cameras, and mobile phone.

This abstract photograph of an inaccessible island—one that otherwise can only be reached by kayak—at low tide demonstrates the future direction of aerial and drone photography. In photography, the key elements are light and the photographer’s vision; the equipment is merely a tool for capturing images. Enjoy
