It’s a Puzzle

A close off centre crop of a Monkey Puzzle Tree - this is a close up taken with a 50-200 non VR lens. I would love to get hold of a Macro lens - would love to see the close up potential.

  1. Wonderful! I have a feeling that monkey puzzle trees display the Fibonacci sequence in their leaf arrangement. I’ll have to look it up!

      1. Yes, it does in many ways! The Fibonacci sequence is a sequence of numbers starting with 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13… and are connected with the ‘golden ratio’ which is a rule that seems to govern how most of nature grows and replicates, right down to single cells. This can be used to explain the natural spiral in sea shells, the arrangement of seeds in a sunflower head etc.

I don’t pretend to be an expert but it is fascinating!

  2. I’m going to have to get up close and personal to one of them we have around here because I don’t thing they look at all like this. Then again I’ve never looked at one head on, this close before…….? To be honest, this looks more like an artichoke than anything else, except for the trailing end. Interesting.

  3. I like a nice monkey puzzle but I wouldn’t have guessed that’s what this was, it looks more like a cactus to me. It’s a lovely shot though, I like the positioning of it as well as the beautiful detail.

    1. Ah Lorna u spotted my wee offset crop lol. I think u this has Cactus quality due to the close focus – perhaps if you get in close you may become one with the texture πŸ™‚
