I thought I would offer a compare and contrast of the same view from different locations – ThisĀ image was taken a few weeks ago and the second back in 2010, when I first moved to the Highlands. I pass this view every time I head out to Inverpolly – I usually stop and in fact I intend to stop on each occasion from now on and see how many variations I get. I love the natural leading lines of Ardmair Bay lots of light textures, cloud shadows and of course the thin layer of cloud perched on the top of Coigach.
This was taken back in 2010, I didn’t know the area at all, this is down on the beach at Ardmair, with the lines drawing you towards Coigach – I liked the wet and dry stones separated by the seaweed line, whipping you round to the mountain topped by a dusting of snow.
Ardmair and Isle Martin are among my favourite places and you’ve captured them beautifully. It’s good to find you – I’ll be following.
glad to have you on board
Would make a great subject for a time lapse series
yes – I agree the weather is always different here
Both look beautiful. It looks like the pictures were taken in different seasons. The latest one warmer and cozier. And 2010 picture is cold and crispy.
Spot on Alexander but not as different as you think – the top shot April this year and the bottom was February if I recall
It’s a spot that deserves photographing, Scott! What a joy to pass by and be able to linger on a regular basis. The cloud formations and light are going to make so much difference to your compositions. I don’t foresee a bad shot š
Cheers Jo – it is the sweep of the bay which I love – it depends on where you are if you get to appreciate it or not.
Interesting to compare the two. The sweep of the bay looks great. The rocks in the foreground and the band of seaweed make a strong impression. Marvellous images.
Cheers Simon – my only gripe with the location is it such a large bay – you can end up with loads of water dominating the image. which is probably why shooting from the beach works a little better compositionally.
My money is on the second shot. Spent a few nights at the caravan site at the ‘Point’….great base for the area
when one gets a caravan that is a great idea – as I feel Ullapool is very ,limited accommodation wise. Are you going to get this far north?
Wonderful to see the comparison – looks a lovely peaceful place to be⦠RH
Yes very peaceful although interestingly I have never seen the beach completely empty
What a place. Both lovely in their own way, I look forward to more. š
thanks Lorna no pressure then š
Beautiful photos, Scott, especially the first one. That flat topped mountain with the cloud, reminded me of our Table Mountain with the tablecloth. š
ha ha it is a little smaller than Table Mountain (on my bucket list because of Wilbur Smith) Coigach is a mere 2000ft
Great shots, but it’s the second shot for me….lead in lines are very strong and the snow on the hills is a winner.
Interesting that you and David both go for the bottom shot. I dont like the colour in the bottom shot – but I do like the dusting of Snow.Cheers Mark
Absolutely stunning & idyllic to spend a holiday! Is it as remote & isolated in high season?
If you don’t mind me asking…where is Ardmair exactly situated on the map?
Just north of Ullapool and you wont go wrong – high season doesn’t really exist although you find more tourists on the road in late summer
