The octagonal Baptistry stands across from the Duomo and Giotto bell tower (Campanile di Giotto) which is where I shot this from. It is one of the oldest buildings in the city, built between 1059 and 1128. The architecture is in Florentine Romanesque style.
Stunning shot, great in B&W.
cheers Rigmover – have you been?
Not yet, it’s on my list.
Marvellous!
I like the framing Graham – which is what drew me
An amazing building although I admit to feeling a little queasy viewing it from that angle. Well done on snapping such an unusual shot of it.
I suppose it does look quiet steep up there – i think the lens exaggerated just how high it was
Fantastic image Scott. The conversion to mono works really well.
cheers Mark, I am quiet enjoying going back through these images and editing again
That’s a great pic.
appreciated thanks
And Australia wasn’t “discovered” for another 700 years!
Scary when you look at it those terms
Excellent view!
cheers Phil
Beautiful scene! That roof is amazing.
The roof looks so much better in mono than colour
My favourite city!
I was a little dissapointed tbh – I preferred Rome and Siena
I never got to Sienna. The day we were to leave Florence, I ended up falling on the pavement right where you took this photo! I had a huge black eye – but there were more adventures that came out of this so I was not disappointed. That means I have a reason to go back!!! 🙂
One of my favourite places in Europe and you have captured it perfectly, of course. A long way up but it was worth it 🙂
I’ll be honest I preferred Rome but would like to go back to Florence to decide for definite lol
